Scientists getting inked. I don't have any tattoos (yet), but I think all of these are awesome. However, when it comes to tattoos, I am a sucker for simple line art (colors fade and get weird). This one is probably my favorite:
From the article: "Lauren Caldwell’s tribute to Giovanni de’ Dondi’s 1364 Il Tractatus Astarii, the first famous Astrarium, which is a mechanical planetarium that mimics the paths of the stars and planets. In other words, it's an astronomical clock. Archimedes used a primitive model, but the first real working astrarium clock is credited to de Dondi. The backpiece here is the Mercury Wheelwork."
Are any of you inked? What science concept do you lends itself to the best tattoos?

Item of the day: Hamsa Bracelet
Hi! This is Amanda from Ulixis Crafts. I have an item of the day on my blog each day & decided to feature some of my fellow Mad Scientists of Etsy (MSOEers) so that my readers can get to know my team a bit better. We really are an interesting group - you'll be amazed at the variety of work a bunch of scientists can do! I'll be copying these daily features over here so that everyone can fully appreciate the MSOE talent.
First up is anjalicreations with this gorgeous braided bracelet.
I feel as though this bracelet was made for me: it features my birthstone (peridot) & favourite colour of the moment (grey), the tree of life (a famous Klimt painting, my favourite artist) & a Hamsa charm (which is an ancient charm agains the evil eye but reminds me of yoga for some reason)... it would be a great reminder to me to keep up with my practice.
Head on over to anjalicreations for more lovely charm bracelets & Judaica. You can also find her blog here.

December Challenge: Tiny Beaked Toad
(image credit: Conservation International via Science News who write, "Scientists discovered a new beaked toad (genus Rhinella), while on an amphibian expedition in Colombia. The toad’s coloration camouflages it on the leaves of the forest floor, where it lays eggs that hatch directly into toadlets, no tadpole stage required.")
In December, the Mad Scientists of Etsy celebrated this newly discovered tadpole-less beaked toad! Check out these hand-made challenge entries:
